Dear families,

The Manchester School District is required under state and federal law to administer an English language proficiency assessment to all students identified as English learners (ELs) once a year. You are receiving this letter because your child is scheduled to take this test. The test measures English skills across the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The results help us to monitor the progress of our EL students as they work to develop English proficiency. Teachers and administrators use this information to plan for instruction and to make improvements to the EL program.

Northwest EL students will begin the testing February 3. All ELs, including those who have opted out of EL services, are required to take this test because the district receives extra funding to support every identified EL student.

The test results will be available in late May. A copy of your child’s scores will be sent home.

Please reach out to your child’s school with any questions.

Sincerely,

Wendy Perron,

Executive Director of Multilingual Learner Education
